Conventional crayons are made from paraffin — a petroleum by-product — and coloured with synthetic dyes that contain heavy metals. Our Soy Wax Crayons replace paraffin with US-grown soy wax (a renewable crop), and use only cosmetic-grade iron oxide and mineral pigments for colour — the same pigments used in natural cosmetics and deemed safe for skin contact. The result is a crayon that is non-toxic even if chewed, produces a rich, buttery stroke, and is fully compostable. Set of 24 in a reusable tin with a sliding lid.

We switched to these after reading about heavy metals in conventional crayons and never looked back. The colours are rich and earthy — slightly muted compared to neon synthetic crayons, but my daughter loves them. She chews the ends sometimes (toddlers…) and knowing there is nothing harmful in them is such a relief. The tin is a bonus — she uses it to store her little treasures.
